The right frame size depends on two things: where it will hang or stand, and how sharp your photo is.
For a desk or shelf
4 × 6 in to 8 × 10 in frames sit comfortably on a table with a stand. They suit portraits, couple photos and small group pictures.
For a wall
12 × 18 in to 16 × 20 in works above a bed or sofa in most rooms. Hang it so the centre of the photo is roughly at eye level.
For a statement piece
20 × 30 in and 24 × 36 in fill a large wall. Choose a photo with a simple background — busy scenes look cluttered at this size.
